Tell Olympia Food Co-op what you think About BDS

The Olympia Food Coop has initiated approved a boycott of Israeli goods -- all Israeli goods. The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel is about ending Israel and Zionism, not "ending the occupation." The Olympia board knows that, but they blue-washed their support for genocide with a silly statement claiming they are just criticizing Israel.
Tell the Olympia Food Coop they are obstructing peace in the Middle East and supporting genocide. board@olympiafood.coop
Here are BDS people in their own words:
Interview with single-state and BDS activist Dr. Haidar Eid

Haidar Eid : As a One Democratic State supporter, it is amongst the corollaries of such a belief that Israel is a settler colonialist, Apartheid state and the methods- or, tools of struggle- used against Apartheid South Africa can be used as a model in our struggle against Apartheid Israel."

Surefire political and human rights integrity test

Are you ready for this? This is a test that is guaranteed to tell the hypocrites from the real believers in human rights.

Suppose there was the following headline:

Bush government arrests four anti-War Democrats

Story:

FBI agents arrested four anti-war Democrats  late Friday in Washington D.C. for "violating the law," according to the government, sparking a protest from relatives of those arrested.

Some 150 woman and children took to the streets, storming the justice department, demanding their relatives be freed. Witnesses said the protesters were beaten with sticks. Ten were evacuated to a local clinic for treatment, medical officials said.

The arrests mark the first time the Bush administration acknowledged it had arrested people because of their anti-war stance. In the past, the Bush administration had claimed to only arrest individuals for specific crimes such as terrorist activity.
What is your opinion of these arrests in Washington? Please write down your answer - no cheating.
1- Justified because of the national emergency.
2- Unjustified, but understandable given the provocations of the opposition.
3- Unjustified infringement on civil liberties.
4 - Outrage that is the result of Zionist machinations and neocon fanaticism.

Now here is the real headline.
Hamas forces arrested four Fatah members late Friday in the northern Gaza Strip for "violating the law," Hamas said, sparking a protest from relatives of those arrested.

Some 150 woman and children took to the streets, storming Hamas headquarters in the town of Beit Hanoun, demanding their relatives be freed. Witnesses said the protesters were beaten with sticks. Ten were evacuated to a local clinic for treatment, medical officials said.

The arrests mark the first time since Hamas's bloody takeover of the Gaza Strip that it acknowledged it had arrested Fatah members because of their affiliation. In the past, Hamas had claimed to only arrest individuals for specific crimes.
What is your opinion of these arrests in Gaza? Please write down your answer - no cheating.
1- Justified because of the national emergency.
2- Unjustified, but understandable given the provocations of the opposition.
3- Unjustified infringement on civil liberties.
4 - Outrage that is the result of Islamist fanaicism and Syrian machinations.

Compare your answers. Are they the same in both cases? Subtract the value of the first answer from the second and square it. Subtract the result from 10.
EG 4-1 = 3; Squared = 9; Subract from 10 = 1
1-3= -2 Squared = 4 Subtract from 10 = 6.
2-3 = -1 Squared = 1 Subtract from 10 = 9.
1-1= 0. Squared = 0; subtract from 10 = 10.

 Scoring:
10 - You are perfectly consistent in your views.
9 - You tend to make "allowances" for one side or the other.
6-  You probably read Counterpunch or Frontpage magazine.
1-  Are you a Guantanamo detainee, living in a cave in Afghanistan or a friend of Dick Cheney?

A grim milestone

From the post "Grim milestone" reached: 500 Palestinian Arabs killed by each other this year by our (younger) colleague Elder Of Ziyon:

We have reached the "grim milestone" of 500 PalArabs that we have been able to document violently killed by each other this year.
Go and read the whole post. Just another quote:
Don't expect any press releases about this milestone, though.
Yeah....

The Arab Initiative: Peace Plan or Ploy?

Is the Arab peace initiative the real thing or a fancy gimmick?

Peace Plan or Political Ploy?

by Carlos

They have treated the wound of my people carelessly,
Saying "Peace, peace," when there is no peace.
(Jeremiah 6:14)

April 8, 2007 - The "new" Saudi peace initiative is being hailed as a breakthrough. But what is its real significance?

This "new" plan is identical to the plan the Saudis proposed at the Arab Summit in March 2002. Here are some of its key provisions, as stated in the actual text:

Full Israeli withdrawal from all the territories occupied since 1967, including the Syrian Golan Heights, to the June 4, 1967 lines as well as the remaining occupied Lebanese territories in the south of Lebanon.

Achievement of a just solution to the Palestinian refugee problem to be agreed upon in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution 194.

The acceptance of the establishment of a sovereign independent Palestinian state on the Palestinian territories occupied since June 4, 1967 in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The rejection of all forms of Palestinian patriation which conflict with the special circumstances of the Arab host countries.

In return for these Israeli concessions, the Arabs promise "normal relations with Israel in the context of this comprehensive peace."

This plan requires analysis. Looking at it closely, one can see that it would leave Israel in a worse position than it was in prior to 1967. Israel would have to withdraw from all areas occupied since 1967, which would mean once again a division of Jerusalem and the loss of Judaism's holiest site. In addition, Israel would have to accept a right of return for Palestinian refugees. The Arab interpretation of Resolution 194 always included this right of return. In addition, the Saudi plan rules out any resettlement ("patriation") of Palestinian refugees that Arab host countries may decide is against their interest. There is only one place remaining for the resettlement of the Palestinian refugees: Israel. Continued here
